Welcome to BUTTGEREIT.COM! This website is dedicated to providing information to retail industry professionals. My inspiration for starting such a site comes from my more than 10 years working in chain store management and consulting positions. As most of the retailers I encounter in the industry, I was not formally trained for a career in the running stores. I, as they, learned by paying my dues and finding lessons in my successes and mistakes.

Yes, I owe much of my career progress to more experienced colleagues, insightful managers and mentors. But having a ready resource to provide insights into retail business norms and customs would have gotten me where I am much faster and avoided some of the trial and error that I had to endure. It is this by consolidating this information into a single reference and forum for our industry that I hope to provide a more simple approach to understanding the retail trade.

While I have spent my career working for chain retailers in some fashion or another, the same issues and techniques and practices do apply to small retail businesses such as the classic mom & pop shop. Indeed, an astute independent store owner may have the most to gain as they learn the tricks of to larger companies and are able to compete more readily.

So stay tuned and if you have a topic you'd like to address, please let me know or post it in the appropriate forums. This website can only reach its full potential if it is a lively community of professionals and not simply the voice of a lone author.
